Saffron Acres Project
Community Allotments
This Lottery funded project is based at the allotments in Copinger Road, just around the corner from the Resource Centre, and has been running since May 2006.
This once neglected four acre site has been transformed into a thriving allotment and community garden, with the help of work placement trainees, volunteers, and school pupils.
The area includes a large orchard where we have planted over one hundred fruit trees, a cornflower meadow where we’ve introduced many varieties of wildflowers, woodland paths, a maize maze, and a large number of vegetable beds.
We are already supplying fruit and vegetables to our Saffcare lunch club, and we hope to increase cultivation in order to extend the service to other local community groups.
Come and help us. Enthusiastic volunteers are always welcome! We particularly want to encourage young people to join us and find out how enjoyable and rewarding growing things can be.
To find out more please contact Will Tait or Neil Hodgkin at the Saffron Resource Centre.
